Cinco de Mayo

¡Hola amigos! ¡Cinco feliz de Mayo! Espero que sea todo bien y disfrutar de este el miércoles encantador. Celebraré este Día mexicano de Independencia trabajando. Sin embargo, cuando el reloj golpea cinco, disfrutaré de pastillas, salsa y un chimichanga. Porque cocina mexicana es ya mi favorito, yo utilizaré simplemente este día como un día para comerlo y beber un Strongbow. Si tengo suerte, yo también miraré "El Tres Amigos".

Christ Is Risen...

Today is Easter. Christians around the world celebrate the resurrection of Jesus Christ. But today isn't the only day to celebrate this. EVERY day we should celebrate Easter. Early Christians began meeting on Sundays as a way to remember the resurrection - Jesus rose on a Sunday morning, therefore corporate Christian worship was to be on Sunday morning. Easter is not the only Resurrection Sunday. Every Sunday, every DAY is Resurrection Day. Because Jesus is forever resurrected. And every day we need to celebrate that awesome truth. 

"But on the first day of the week, at early dawn, they came to the tomb bringing spices which they had prepared. And they found the stone rolled away from the tomb, but when they entered, they did not find the body of the Lord Jesus. While they were perplexed about this, behold, two men suddenly stood near them in dazzling clothing; and as the women were terrified and bowed their faces to the ground, then men said to them, "Why do you seek the living One among the dead? He is not here, but He has risen." (Luke 24.1-6a)

I know I don't celebrate or remember the resurrection of Jesus everyday. But everyday I need to. In the words of Bill and Gloria (oh yes, I went there...): "Because He lives, I can face tomorrow. Because He lives, all fear is gone. Because I know Who holds the future. And life is worth the living just because He lives." That's why we celebrate today, this Easter Sunday. And hopefully tomorrow I will wake up remembering what the resurrection means again.

"Kiss me! I'm Irish!"

Okay... so I'm not really Irish (I'm like 1/84 or something like that) but rest assured, I will capitalize on this minute heritage because I have no shame and if there's some gorgeous, single guy in say, my Greek class? who I can coerce into kissing this not-very-Irish girl, I have no problem tweaking my lineage. Especially if he cusses and wants to go have a Strongbow with me.

And I just wanted to share that with you all.

3.14 - Happy Pi Day!

Did your teachers ever tell you Calculus or Algebra or Geometry was important for your every day life? That'd you would use it when you were older? That one day you'd thank them for teaching this most frustrating of all studies to you?

Well, today call up your math teachers and thank them for teaching you about the function of 3.14. Because it's Pi day! The day we celebrate... Pi. 

I'm sure you are rightly wondering: How do I appropriately celebrate this holiday of holidays?

Here are some basic tips to help get the most out of your day:

1. Don't do any math

This would be counter-productive. Instead of enjoying this day, you will pull out your hair and gnash your teeth. Because that's what math inspires - pain. (Sorry Brenda Cathcart....) If you have no other option for doing math (like doing your taxes) and you can't put it off till Sunday, make someone else do it. Particularly if it's someone you don't care for. 

2. Eat pie

Most of you know that I'm not the world's biggest pie fan. But I will eat pie on this day. Because it just makes sense - eating PIE on International PI Day. A play on words on a math day. That just shows math who's boss. 

3. Hug a nerd

Nerds like math. It's just a proven fact. And they probably don't get hugged much. So share the joy and the celebration with a round of hugs at the local nerd-a-torium. You may also need to use Klingon to get in, but that's another post.

4. Spin in circles

Because Pi relates to circles, it makes seems right to celebrate Pi by making some circles of your own. Some people might think you've joined the Swirling Dervishes, but that's ok. You are honoring the day. 

5. Comment on this site

You might think this is a ploy for comments, but it's not. If you share how you've celebrated Pi Day, then I can take the number of comments, multiply them by 3.14, divide by the invisible number 0 and next year we can party-hardy! (Don't worry, I won't do the math until Sunday.)

Facebook

Well, I finally figured out what to give up for Lent. And let me tell you, I'm pretty scared I'll fail. 

The Lord led me to.... Facebook. Yeah... Yeah. Facebook is practically my BFF! (Sorry actual people in my world.)

You would be shocked (SHOCKED!) if you knew just how much time I spend on Facebook. Doing. Absolutely. Nothing. If I spent even half the time I spend on Facebook with the Lord... whoa. Just whoa. Plus, I am so easily distracted and since I'm trying to do this whole "school" thing again and that includes homework now... 

So, I think it'll be good. Hard. Difficult. Tempting. But good. 

All that to say... please don't get annoyed when I'm overcompensating here. Although, that would pretty much negate the purpose of fasting from the interweb-ness... yeah, I'm screwed. 

Oh well. Happy Lent! =)

Lent

I recently told you guys that I was celebrating Febarple again due to my crazy intake of Dr. Pepper. 

The problem is that I also celebrate Lent. I want to give up something that means something. Not just give something up for the sake of the season or because it's not that hard to stay away from. Like, I can't say "Oh, I'll give up watching robot movies for Lent and that will be my fast." That's ridiculous. I can't give up something if I never do it in the first place. Jesus doesn't like that. 

But, since Lent starts TODAY and I'm still not sure what would be good (and the Lord isn't sharing His thoughts), I thought I'd ask ya'll for some advice. What would you give up for Lent? Are you giving up anything at all?

Febarple

Febarple: noun. A holiday designed for Lent-esque purposes, specifically in abstaining from beverage-related addiction consumption February 15-April 15 each year. 

Yes, friends, it's that time of the year. For those of you that don't know, each year (this is year #3) I celebrate a little known holiday called Febarple (defined above). The first year involved a bet - dinner for the winner (and I ain't gonna turn down no free dinner!) Since then I've simply been doing it for myself. I like to prove that I can do it. 

I love Dr. Pepper. You could seriously put it in an IV and I'd be golden. If I could, my pantry would look like this....

As I've mentioned before, I love traditions. This is a tradition I do, even though I do it by myself now. 

But these next two months will be tough because I RARELY go one day without my sweet elixir. I'm sure my dreams will consist of several variations on this:

Pray.

Due to mass volumes (ie. 2) comments that my definition of Febarple should be expanded, I have done so above. If any of you care to join me in the tradition of Febarple of your own beverage addiction, let me know. It'll be a team-building thing! =)
