Talk Thursday // Deal-Breakers

Some people have those things that just aren't ok in a relationship, things that would be an automatic "no" from Day 1.

Do you have those things? If you're married, did your spouse have them? What are those things that you are just unwilling to bend on for a relationship? (Other than the whole "unequally yoked" thing... =) )

hmm...I really don't think I had any to speak of. Not that I realized, or realize, anyway. I knew a lot of people who did. Music majors who would only marry an alto, etc.

I wanted a Southern girl, and I wanted a girl with brown hair (blondes do NOTHING for me), and I wanted to marry Belle. But none were deal breakers, but DEFINITE preferences.

Oh, yeah...

What are your deal breakers?

(and don't leave any out. I'll know, and I'll tell.) :)

mine were missions and children, for sure.

there were deal breakers that were specific for other girls that i dated, but those were more than likely just excuses to break up with them.

I could never be with someone who wanted to live in one place their entire life. That's a huge deal-breaker for me. I need to know that the person I'm with is cool with packing up and leaving if a great opportunity comes up somewhere else. Granted, I don't want someone who's always edgy and wanting to move all over the place, but flexibility is important for me.

P.S. See, I posted a comment on your blog!!! I do love you!!! :)

Cannot be a Cubs fan... abotively, posilutely no!

I also don't want someone who is younger than me... I don't want to be the new Mrs. Robinson.

I'm sure there are others like the whole unequally yoked thing but you said I can't use that one so I'm finished.

:)

I'm not picky, I just know what I can't live with for the rest of my life. =)

1. Smooth jazz - no no no
2. If he HATES country music. He doesn't have to love it, but I need to be able to listen to it.
3. Sara - I'm with you on the whole moving thing. Totally.
4. If he tries to befriend squirrels or robots.
5. If he can't take a joke/prank
6. If he can't take anything seriously
7. If he won't let me drive
8. If we can't have a serious conversation (esp about theology/Bible stuff)
9. If he has an overabundance of bodyhair
10. If my friends and family don't like him

My dealbreakers:

1. doesn't love kids with disabilities/doesn't make the effort to have a friendship with my sister
2. doesn't read - seriously
3. doesn't use terms of endearment - I know, it's a stupid one, but... its important to me
4. doesn't know how I take my coffee - this is more of a measure of whether or not someone is ready to live with me for the rest of my life, but... you know... whatev.
5. can't sit still sometimes - always has to be going and doing something
6. brings high school kids on our dates - but, maybe that's just the bitterness creeping in
7. it's not even about equally yoked, its about passion - he HAS to LOVE the Lord - I mean, like... seriously... He has to be crazy about Him
8. if he doesn't tease me - see you later
9. a rancher would be nice - not a deal breaker, I suppose, but... I don't want to live in the big city, really (visit often, yes... but live, no)

ok- now I am just rambling. I haven't really thought about my actual deal breakers in a really long time.... hmmmm....

1. he couldnt be obsessed with working out. i didnt really want to marry a jock (no offense to jocks)
2. he had to love sports though (playing them with friends, watching them, coaching little league, etc)
3. he had to be going into youth ministry in some fashion
4. my dad had to like him
5. he had to make me laugh all the time

those are just some things. i've been with andrew for 5.5 years, so i havent really thought about it in a long time. but i do clearly remember those as being very important.

I remembered another one of mine: I CANNOT date a guy who wears make-up. Unless it's for a play. Like theatre. Any other form of make-up is just so not ok with me. Automatic deal-breaker.

thats a good one, sarah.
but i totally wouldn't mind if the guy wore pink.
