Talk Friday // Work

Yesterday I was asked to stay late to work on a project here at the office. I ended up spending 2.5 hours cutting out foam flags as a visual system for our clinicians. It was menial and silly and definitely not worth the college degree I have to do it.

But you know what? I loved it.

Our culture says that we're not really supposed to love our jobs. At least, not until we're 49 and have started our own businesses. But I'm 24; I work as an Admin Assistant - a temp one! - for a mental health/chemical dependancy intake center and I love coming into work. It rarely bothers me that I have to go into work at all. Sure, some days I'd rather just lay in bed or chill in the coffee shop, but by the time I get here, I enjoy the work I do. One day maybe I'll get to do full-time ministry (and maybe even get paid for it!), but for now, I'm going to enjoy working here with a great team, in a great atmosphere and hoping for opportunities for ministry in this office.

So let's get to know each other a little bit:

What to you do for a living?
How do you feel about it?
If this isn't your dream job, what is?

I work at a textbook/Baylor apparel store. I enjoy it, mostly because my co-workers are friendly and fun to work with, and my manager is a great guy.

I really hope to get a music or youth ministry position, because it's what I love doing. I know church work can be difficult, but if I can spend most of my time and energy focusing on being a Christ-follower and minister, I'm all for it.

I don't do anything for a living. I worked at a daycare for 4 days. Next week I'll be working 40 hours as a fill-in receptionist at an insurance company.
I'm bored. I'd like a job and I'd like to feel like I'm contributing to my home.
I have a dream. Editing from home. I love our little apt bubble, but I need something to do. Freelance editing would be the perfect solution. Will is happen? Probably not. But dreams are fun.

i'm a stay at home dad.

i think at this point in my life, i've been called to be a stay at home dad. hopefully it will serve to correct the ills that our fathers put on us by being unavailable.

dream job would be: learning about stuff and teaching it to other people. that would preferably involve teaching the bible, the implications of the gospel, or history, but i enjoyed my time as a crew trainer at mcdonald's.

and i want to be a church planter.

Lewis, I feel the same way about my job too!!!
It's not where I want to be forever, but for right now, it's awesome. I hardly ever wake up dreading I have to go, I hate having to wake up early. But I love the people.
Dream job would be working in the same industry, just in a higher position.
But for now, I'm content! And that's healthy.
